Gonzalez, Crawford look to make big impact for Bosox
March 6, 2011, By Nathan Sumner

Gonzalez adds his 168 career home runs to an already potent Boston lineup.

Fort Myers, FL - The 2011 Edition of the Boston Red Sox is very similar to 2004. Expectations are high with additions of First Baseman Adrian Gonzalez from the San Diego Padres and Left Fielder Carl Crawford from division rival Tampa Bay. Gonzalez adds his 168 career home runs, including over 30 the last four consecutive seasons to an already potent Boston offense and give Manager Terry Francona more depth at first base, allowing Kevin Youkilis to patrol third and be used as a first base backup. Rumors flew for a long time that the Yankees had been interested in Gonzalez's bat. Can you blame them? Can you imagine the destruction A-Gon would've done at new Yankee Stadium with its short porch in right? Now he'll be doing his destruction for Boston. The Bosox were also thrilled (and maybe even relieved) to sign Crawford to a seven-year, $142 million contract, especially after he tied the modern single-game stolen base record in a 2008 game against the Sox. Remember the days of the Sox playing for the 3-run homer? No speed, just power. Those days have officially come to an end. If Jacoby Ellsbury can stay healthy, the Sox will have that speed in 2/3 of their outfield along with the experienced bat of J.D. Drew.

Bring on the Yankees! Play Ball!
